Progressive Design, Inc. is currently seeking a Senior Structural Designer. This is a full-time position located in Midlothian, VA- (Richmond, VA area).

- 10+ years of heavy industrial experience.
- Possess proficient understanding in AutoCAD 3D Design with working knowledge of Revit, Advance Steel and RISA 3D.
- Senior Civil/Structural/Architectural Designers are responsible for performing civil, structural and architectural design duties as stand-alone projects; or project lead on multi-disciplined projects.
- Setting up the initial project constraints to include developing and coordinating project standard border template and ensuring that drawings and designs are in accordance with company production and design standards across all disciplines.
- Perform field work and gather project information such as research existing drawings and vendor equipment specifications.
- Overseeing the development of the project drawings and maintaining a drawing log.
- Track and maintain the project schedule, budget, and resources.
- Possess a full understanding of the project scope of work and identify out of scope activities to be included as part of project management of change.
- Possess ability to coordinate between engineering disciplines.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of all deliverable products and services in assigned areas of responsibility.
- Responsible for all document controls within the PDiWorx document control software.
- Perform construction period services to include review shop fabrication drawings and vendor submittals, answer RFI’s from contractors, performing on-site inspections to include special inspections.
- Perform project close out to include organizing and cleaning up electronic files, recording and communicating “lessons” learned to the CSA department.
- Keep project engineer and lead CSA engineer informed of workload and any changes in project scope or additional services.
- 10+ years of heavy industrial experience.
- Possess proficient understanding in AutoCAD 3D Design with working knowledge of Revit, Advance Steel and RISA 3D.
- Basic understanding and ability to research design codes i.e. IBC, ASCE 7, OSHA, ACI and AISC.
- Possess basic understanding of IBC with regards to building egress, stairs and ramp construction, building construction types, occupancy and fire protection elements.
- Possess proficient understanding and detailing of basic civil and structural material specifications such as foundations, concrete and steel to the extent that all information required for material purchase, fabrication and construction is reflected on the finished drawings.
- Possess a basic understanding of structural stability requirements, i.e. load distribution and load path.
- Make basic calculations using engineering formulas and skills for design such as foundations, grating, wall and roof panels, mezzanines, pipe bridges, etc.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of civil design to include topographic surveys, erosion and sediment control measures, storm water management, staking and site layout and underground utility plans.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of architectural design in relation to industrial features such as doors, door hardware, roofing materials, flashing etc.
- Travel to site to perform field work in industrial environments to collect design information and verify tie- ins, function and clearances in relation to other disciplines.
- Provide drawing for own designs and/or produce sketches to incorporate in drawings by CAD technicians.
- Research design options and document findings for lead engineer.
- Provide information to project lead engineer for incorporation into specifications.
- Working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Must be results oriented and a team player.
